Scouting for technology to detect the presence of children on the car backseat. The incentive to acquire such a technology were twofold: 1) child hyperthermia – children / babies left in cars and dying of being exposed to high temperature. 2) Seatbelt reminder for backseat passengers. Two main problems were: existing sensors could not be integrated in the backseat (technical reasons) and existing sensors could not be used to detect a child / baby in baby-seats. Therefore we needed a new technology. We talked to several universities to evaluate and test innovative technologies. We also approached start-ups to test technologies. We finally chose two technologies and setup collaboration programs to transform the technologies into products.
